Shostakovich - Sonata for Cello and Piano in D minor

Fazil Say - Sonata for Cello and Piano “Four Cities"

Rising young artists from the Royal Academy of Music - Hugh Mackay (Suggia Gift recipient) and Junyan Chen (semifinalist, 2023 Sydney Piano Competition) - perform a staple of the cello & piano duo repertoire, Shostakovich’s Sonata in D minor alongside. Turkish pianist & composer Fazil Say’s evocative ‘Four Cities’ cello sonata, a work describing the traits of four cities across Anatolia and which combines influences from jazz, traditional music and city soundscapes with the familiar sonata idiom.
