Clova Quartet

Formed at the Royal Academy of Music in 2019, the Clova Quartet is an exciting, young and innovative string quartet based in London. Comprising four current students of the Royal Academy –  violinists Gabriel Bilbao Toledo and Rodrigo Checa Lorite, violist Edgar Francis, and cellist Hugh Mackay – their musical interests span widely, from historically-informed performance to contemporary repertoire, jazz to Latin music.

The quartet made their debut at the Kinnordy Chamber Music Festival shortly after forming and are continuing to quickly build their repertoire. Following competitive auditions in October 2019, they were selected for the Frost ASSET Scheme 2019-2020 (Royal Academy of Music) and assigned Levon Chilingirian (Chilingirian Quartet) as their specialist mentor. They have been fortunate to work with many distinguished musicians, such as Robin Michael, Ben Hancox (Sacconi Quartet), Catherine Manson (London Haydn Quartet), James Boyd, John Myerscough (Doric Quartet), and Hartmut Rohde (University of the Arts, Berlin).
